The holiday magic inspired these little trees and I thought I would post them and offer up the idea to others …if you have some old family jewels that are meaningful but you don’t know what to do with I can make them into a tree for you!  Let me know…

This first one was on an old dictionary page and a burlap board -5×7- that had an easel back….

This one was done on a piece of satin fabric mounted on burlap mounted on mat board

with a simple frame to set it off…all said and done it is 8×8.

The wings of angels are often found on the backs of the least likely people.

I crafted another whimsical winged woman I named “free bird” – she allowed a tiny blue bird to nest a top her head. I dug in my salvaged treasure box and came up with a necklace, collar stays and pearl tear drops that all seemed to fit. But when it came to the wings ….IMG_2997

I decided to attach them differently and give her a bit of whimsy, so they are actually attached at what should be the bottom of the wing. She likes them just fine!

Who is she wearing you ask? Well a fine gelli print by yours truly!IMG_2998When babies look beyond you and giggle, maybe they’re seeing angels.

Our Mixed-Media Collabrative got together for it’s montly meeting today – our project of the day was altering photos. I have quiet the stash of photos that I take to use for cards or to draw and paint from so I dug them out and had fun playing. We tried sanding, spraying with bleach, applying alcohol inks, rubbing with ink, scratching into, and stamping on. The most interesting thing that happened was that the more you played witht them the more they took on a whole new life of their own. I really enjoyed it and will continue to experiment. For now here are the three I experimented with:

This one I was happiest with – the original was of the flowers on a stone wall, unfortunatly I could not find the original…

next a french couple took on a new look…

I have been stationed in Asheville, NC for the past few weeks and thought it would be fun to share some of my moments…as the saying goes you never step in the same river twice so are your steps in this unique little spot …

A recent workshop with a wonderful art teacher at our local community center led to anexploration of working with beeswax and collage. Jane brought a melting pot from her crayon batik class so there were wonderful colors to add to the works which were basically being done with my tiny crockpot full of melted white beeswax .

On the piece above I added mesh netting and microbeads to top of the collage- I loved working in different textures. When I get stuck on a piece I challenge myself to move forward by looking for different ways to add texture.

I moved on to an angle/goddess pattern I have been carrying around with me for quite a few years waiting for her moment. I had difficulty with the faces and plan on trying again on them (the beauty of wax is that I can melt and lift and change- yeah!) So any comments on direction would be great – one the face went to dark and the other I just dont like the blankness….thoughts?

IMG_2057

IMG_2061I worked on two canvas that I had printed in a geli monoprint session – the orange backgrounds, the gold background is a mesh type odd scrap from a very generous friend – thanks Patty! The pink is added wax from the crayon melting pots.  The musical gal is still calling to me for more work.

In both the angels I used items that were treasures from a paper swap I did this past year that brought me a package of bits and bobs from South African Artist: Barbara Philip. She is honored in these pieces through the feathers and flowers…thank you Barbara hope you are well!

IMG_2058

One last piece that pairs nicely with the angle above is just a collage that evolved simultanously as I worked on the girls…enjoy and suggestions are welcome!

IMG_1897Another Glass Mosaic Class captured my attention these past few weeks…

I choose a little owl knob I found in a sale bin  for my inspiration piece. I let it evolve from his pearch which is built from a domino base and an odd found object that I think was a handle. An old door plate highlights his branch. I tried to get the feeling of trees and leaves with the glass…here it is in process…perched and ready.perched and ready...

And the painting begins….
